This is to ensure that the application is robust, cheap and is able to run on different platforms. The system was developed using PhP, macromedia dreamweaver, apache and MYSQL. This research presents an online National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Outpatient Medical Appointment Booking System where NHIS patients can access and view any available personnel or doctor schedule in order to book an appointment with the corresponding time as specified by the available doctor. Appointment scheduling system lies at the intersection of providing efficiency and timely access to health services. The number of missed appointments in healthcare institutions in Nigeria caused problems, hence the need for integrated healthcare system to intervene and provide seamless care for patients. These are carried out in practice using appropriate NFC hardware, Android SDK, Php and MySQL database. Considering these drawbacks, we here propose to develop an alternate patient appointment system using Near Field Communication (NFC) technique and Android enabled mobile application with a view to redefining the core of hospital waiting time towards appointment and also collection of medicines. However, these systems still possess some drawbacks like facilities towards prioritization, security level of patient and also no reminder system present for these appointments. In view of these problems, many techniques like online patient registration and scheduling appointment, etc., have been suggested to improve the work flow and thereby smoothen the waiting time. In some places appointment can be done online via web but still patient has to walk in with the appointment card to be swiped by the front desk personnel before being sent to the concerned doctor. Normally, we see patients coming to the hospital and filling out registration forms and waiting to be called or patient calls in for getting appointment and waits for the response for an agreed date. The current standard operating procedure in healthcare environment for patient registration and appointment scheduling are time consuming and somehow tiresome. Hence this will provide medical staff awareness, reduction of waiting time, minimizing Doctors' idle time and unnecessary costs to patients. The proposed system designing will allow patient to book an appointment before travelling. This solution will provide efficient use of few available health resources like medical specialty doctors, time and equipments. The major purpose of this paper is to design detailed Information system framework through application of ICT to solve referral challenges. Thus create long waiting time for patients, doctors' idle time, unnecessary cost to patients and disturbances. Basically, patients have to travel at one hospital to another seeking quality healthcare delivery on faith with assurance of being served. The problems of referral services in Tanzania include shortage of human resources, facilities, equipments, records keeping systems and referral appointment system. The number of ICT projects has been adopted and put into applications but referral services remains forgotten. In many years ago, existing referral systems did not offer assurance to get specialty hospital services. The issue of making an appointment to access referral services in Tanzania, you need to have individual relationships to medical staffs as friendship or relatively. In this paper, we present a mobile based application scheduling system for managing patient appointments. Timely availability of doctors is critical whenever a patient needs to see a specialist doctor for treatment and a serious bottleneck lies in the application of appropriate technology techniques to enhance appointment scheduling. When attending hospitals in Tanzania, patients experience challenges to see an appropriate specialist doctor because of service interval inconsistency. Appointment scheduling systems are utilized mainly by specialty care clinics to manage access to service providers as well as by hospitals to schedule patient appointments. ![]()
